Like everybody else in the isphere, I get a fair share of spam. My alter ego RC Kohler is playing around a bit with the influx of Russian stuff on his website, but I digress. I’ll tell you ahead of time, the moral of this story is research the depth of the water before you dive off that cliff.

A couple of hours ago, I get this nicely formatted HTML e-mail (first hint), no graphics, no fancy stuff, only one link, so I immediately wonder why it’s HTML. It’s signed by Chris. OK so I know a lot of Chrises, but can’t think of one that would send me e-mail in HTML. Then I look up to see that good old Chris’s e-mail address is HYPERBIZ at some-url-I-wont-mention-here. That takes this Chris off the list of anybody I know.

So in this e-mail, my good buddy Chris is telling me about this new website that I “should be on.” Wow! A website I should be on. The link is right there, will only take a second to click it. (authorsnation.com) I don’t click it though. Why? Because one of the first rules of safe computing is DON’T CLICK A LINK IN AN E-MAIL WHEN YOU DON’T KNOW THE SENDER. However the place does look interesting. So I put on the cybercondom and Googled the name. Nothing bad showed up, nothing exciting either, just relatively neutral stuff. I type the URL into my address bar and hit Go.

The site is classy. Well designed, intuitive navigation. Membership is free. Oo-o-o-o-oh, my kind of price point. I check out the forum, a lot of categories, but not much meat. Most of the categories show 0 posts. Then something that does look interesting. The posts that ARE there have a lot to do with how to publicize authorsnation. h-m-m-m. So the website turns out to be sponsored by a publishing company. OK, maybe. The website wants you to post all of your work on their site — of course the small print says that you still own all the rights — but they don’t mention that no publisher will buy anything once it’s been posted on their website. Seems to be that nasty language around “FIRST” in the publication rights clauses of most contracts.

So I make sure the cybercondom is snug and check out the sponsor. For $499 they’ll publish my book, or anybody’s book. Good luck, Chris. Whoever/Whereever you are.

Ron

But you can listen to it right here on OUR MySpace page, it’s called TEXANS.

We’re working on a couple of deals with other music sites, but nothing to announce on that as of yet.

But he is a congressman and he is running for President, yep… THAT President… not the garden club or the Chamber of Commerce… the President of the USA. I noticed today that he’s started one heck of a web campaign in the past couple of days. Even started a Squidoo Lens And he’s been making all the local newspapers (The Boulder Springs Journal, The Solace Creek Statesman) and Television and Radio (York Broadcast Network)… Ok, he didn’t really make the radio, he INSULTED radio station KZUD 88.2 in today’s WebSpeech.

I just don’t know about the guy. He’s really hung up on this immigration thing… (must be a hot topic with Colorado Congressmen running for President.)

All I know is I’m not gonna vote for the guy. Even if he IS a figment of my imagination.

Get ready for the very first episode of Idols Time Warp, from NasalOranges and York Broadcast Network

The transcript of the very first Idols Time Warp programme was released on NasalOranges on Monday, April 16, 2007. We had considered posting actual video footage of the programme, but discovered that the video equipment and media did not reach a “level of sustainability” during the time travels. Even our digital voice recorder became distorted, and converted itself to an 8-track tape player on one early test of the system.

We used digital voice recorders rather than video gear as test subjects because they are relatively cheap. And after paying Simeon Cruel’s salary, we don’t have that much budget left. One came back as a stylus and clay block, another returned as carved stone tablets. Who could have known?

Therefore, you get transcripts. Painstakingly scribed by our note taker Geoff Chaucer.

The first programme comes from February 9, 1964 in the city of New York USA. Four of Her Royal Majesty’s subjects, named John, Paul, George, and Richard, will perform for our judges.

Tune In Tomorrow!!!!!

NasalOranges from Ron Chalice

York Broadcast Network is a figment of the imagination of Ron Chalice it is not a REAL network… yet.

We just put up a cool new toy on RonChalice.Com…

It’s a new page that selects and displays random excerpts… Poems from Kiss the Breath of Sunset, additional poetry, hort stories, articles, quotes from characters in the Solace Creek Stories, blog entries, song lyrics and more…

More changes…

Take a look at the new home page… it has a picture of Catherine ‘Case’ Combes and a new tagline for the Solace Creek Project.

The entire site has been given a facelift — along with all the sites in the Solace Creek Stories project –to take advantage of the real estate on most of the monitors out there (no… for those of you still at 800×600 you’ll still see a good chunk of information above the fold with minimal horizontal scrolling).

In addition to the facelifts, Acolytica, Boulder-Springs, Molly Wanna Quacker, and SeemsFree have all been given completely new graphic designs and logos.

This is all being done in preparation for followup on the Pikes Peak Writer’s Conference in a couple of weeks, and for our presentation “Playing Spider:Enticing Your Web Audience” at the Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers Colorado Gold conference in September.

What I’m reading: I’m going to make some time this weekend for Robert Crais – The Watchman; looking forward to meeting him in the Springs.

What I’m listening to: Stumbled across “Johnny Winter’s Greatest Hits” in the bargain bin at Borders…

So What! You say… it’s not like anybody knows who you are or cares about your “Stinkin’ Hall of Fame….”

OK, Yup, You maybe right. But I know that somewhere in the 60 gazillion people who are wandering the murky mire of the Internet, there is at least ONE individual DYING to be the FIRST PERSON canonized in the RonChalice Blog Hall of fame.

The blog treasure hunt is to find the name of the Character who said the following… “Men are like blisters…” in one of the numerous blogs relating to RonChalice, ChaliceMedia, and the Solace Creek Stories. (for hints go to the page for The Solace Creek Project at RonChalice.COM)

The first person to post the CORRECT Character NAME and OCCUPATION as a comment to this blog item will be FOREVER enshrined in the RonChalice Blog Hall of Fame as the FIRST EVER INDUCTEE!!!!
